About Us
The Irish Exporters Association is an independent representative body for all Irish exporters. We have been serving Ireland’s export community for the last 75 years, helping local businesses succeed in global markets.
Whether you’re shipping your first container overseas or running an established international supply chain, you know how quickly the landscape can change. That’s why we exist.
We’re here to guide and support you through the daily challenges of international trade. We provide practical support, expert knowledge, and strong advocacy to help your export business grow. When policy decisions affect your ability to trade internationally, we’re here to make sure your voice gets heard at government and EU level.
Our History
Since 1951, the Irish Exporters Association has been an essential partner to Ireland’s trading community. We’ve grown alongside Irish business, changing to meet new needs through economic shifts, technology advances, and global trade developments.
1950s-1960s: Building the Foundation
Founded on May 1st, 1951, by a small group of visionary business leaders, we were established to help Ireland get back on its feet after WWII. During these decades, we supported a young nation as it moved beyond a reliance on local trade toward an open, global economy.
1970s-1980s: Building the Foundation
As Ireland joined the EEC in 1973, we provided essential representation to Irish exporters, helping local businesses navigate the “Single Market.” We guided our members through global recessions, helping them diversify from traditional agriculture into industrial manufacturing and new international markets.
1990s-2000s: The Era of Development and Growth
During the “Celtic Tiger” boom, the IEA evolved into a vital trade association in Ireland, launching professional training and certification programmes. We ensured that as Irish trade grew, exporters had the technical knowledge and compliance support to compete with the world’s best.
2010s: Navigating Global Uncertainty
We led the national response to Brexit, acting as a critical source of support for members facing unprecedented border and regulatory changes. We remained the primary voice for Irish exporters during the post-2008 recovery, proving that export-led growth is the engine of the Irish economy.
2020s: Leading the Transition
Today, our focus is on the future. We are championing export advocacy in Ireland regarding sustainable trade practices, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and digital transformation. We help our members turn modern challenges into competitive advantages.
Today: Your Independent Voice
We represent a diverse community across every sector, from innovative scaling companies to established global multinationals.
As an independent body, we ensure the concerns of the export community stay at the forefront of government and EU policy.
Supporting Growth Across All Export Sectors
We support a diverse community of Irish businesses that collectively represent billions of euro in export value. From local manufacturers and food producers to technology innovators and service providers, our members trust us to help them succeed in global markets.
“The Irish Export Association has been a great help to us with consular assistance, visa applications and general enquiries. We have also attended workshops and focus meetings and they have without fail been of interest, importance and primarily useful. The association gives us the opportunity to meet and support other exporters and we would highly recommend joining.”
